Boeing Vancouver has entered into scholastic partnerships with the Centre for Operations Excellence at UBC's Sauder School of Business and with the Vancouver Institute for Visual Analytics, a joint Simon Fraser and University of British Columbia (UBC) research institute.
The Center for Operations Excellence (COE) at UBC's Sauder School of Business
Boeing Vancouver has been a key partner with the COE by providing funding for research projects, as well as hiring many of its graduates for our Advanced Analytics group, including Andrew Hall, who helped found and leads the practice. Our Advanced Analytics Group is a recognized Centre of Excellence within Boeing, and is a thought leader in airline consulting for Boeing’s Digital Aviation business.
Founded in 1998, the COE is an internationally recognized Operations Research centre based in the Operations and Logistics division of the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia.
The COE is dedicated to providing value to business and academia through projects with industry and research on applied Operations Research methods. The COE also administers the UBC Master of Management in Operations Research program, a unique Master's program that provides students with an advanced education in OR and the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in a professional business environment.
Vancouver Institute for Visual Analytics (VIVA)
Boeing Vancouver has hired grads from VIVA who have played keys roles in developing cutting-edge visualizations in our Advanced Analytics Group.
In 2007, The Boeing Company provided a $1.3M industrial research grant over 5 years to UBC and SFU to jointly study visual analytics (VA). The general goals of the grant were to establish the VA field in Canada, to disseminate VA research results in Canada to Government agencies and business organizations, and to discover how visual analytics might be used within Boeing.
In 2010, a similar gift was given by the Boeing Company to both universities to establish the Vancouver Institute for Visual Analytics (VIVA) at SFU. VIVA will advance visual analytics in Canada by promoting excellence in visual analytics research already being conducted by Canadian VA researchers in the context of real world problems. VIVA will also build capacity to train resources for industrial and academic organizations.
